INTRODUCTION
     
 

The Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics deals with restoration of teeth to reproduce esthetics & function; it also deals with smile designing, esthetic dentistry including bleaching of teeth.

Endodontics is a branch which deals with root canal treatment and periapical surgeries

To impart the highest quality of education to students & shape them to be good professionals.
To provide high quality treatment using state-of-the-art instruments and equipments.

  Undergraduate Programme  
 
 
  I BDS - Bridge courses – Orientation & Bridge course for I BDS students for 15 days.
  II BDS - Spoken English Languages, Evaluation and bridge courses.
Preclinical classes / theory classes for conservative dentistry classes
  III BDS - Clinical postings / theory classes for conservative dentistry
  IV BDS - Clinical postings / theory classes for conservative dentistry and Endodontics
Demonstration of endodontic instruments and treatment
 
     
 
  For II, III & IV BDS
  Tutorial classes for academically weak students.
  The teaching plan for the entire year, and the distribution according to topic-wise/ lecture-wise/ reference books/ index has been given to the students.
  A clinical demonstration/ discussion follows every lecture during clinical postings.
  Library hours between 3-5 p.m. to be followed strictly.
 
 


Internship : Two months postings which includes O.P postings ,RVG postings and assisting P.G students during special cases

 
   
  Postgraduate Programme  
 
  Seminars, Journal clubs, Discussions, Special case presentations evaluated by each staff member using evaluation proforma.
  Extension of specialty treatment (one day in a week) to rural areas at the satellite centers.
  Participation in conferences, workshops, P.G. Convention and CDE Programmes .
  Problem based learning in small groups is done for undergraduate students by the postgraduates.
  Maintenance of Log books.
  Teaching modules to be developed.

Registered PhD programme going on in the department
Prof. (Dr.) Mithra N. Hegde was recognized as the PhD guide in the subject conservative dentistry and endodontic under dental faculty of Rajiv Gandhi University of Dental Sciences in June 2006.

Dr. Vyapaka Pallavi had bagged the best paper award in the 9th National Federation of Operative Dentistry of India and Indian Endodontic Society post graduate students convention held in Goa from the 16th to18th of May 2008.
 
The paper titled “Management of traumatized teeth with crown fracture and complicated crown root fracture – a case report” won 2nd best paper among 169 papers presented at the conference. She was guided by Prof. (Dr). Mithra. N. Hegde , Head of the department and Dr. Shishir Shetty, Reader, Department of Conservative and Endodontics, A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Deralakatte, Mangalore.
