INTRODUCTION
     
 

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is surgery to correct a wide spectrum of diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws and the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region. It is a recognized international surgical specialty.

 
     
  AIMS & OBJECTIVES  
  The department is actively involved in academic/teaching programme as well as patient care.  
 
Diagnosis, treatment planning and comprehensive management of the pathologies & deformities in the orofacial region.
Acquire adequate knowledge of anomalies, lesions and diseases affecting orofacial region and the importance of etiology and pathogenesis of oral disease.
To master the skills of major and minor surgeries

  AREAS OF STUDY  
  Under Graduate Training Programme  
 

Training is provided to undergraduate students (BDS) during their Third and Final year in Oral Surgery in the form of theory lecture classes, clinical postings, chair side teaching, demonstrations and small group discussions. The department conducts sessional examinations in the subject for the students.

 
     
  Post Graduate Training Programme  
  Postgraduate training programme leading to the degree of MDS (Master of Dental Surgery) in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with Oral Implantology.
A Comprehensive 3 years full time course including hands on training in most aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Students also get posted in subjects such as Surgical oncology, Neurosurgery, Medicine, ENT, Anesthesiology etc. as prescribed by DCI.
Students are trained to conduct a research/clinical study as part of thesis required by Rajiv Gandhi University Of Health Sciences.
 
     
  Ph.D programme  
 
Ph.D programme provided as 3 yr short term (full time) and 5 yr full time programme recognized by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences

MFDS training
Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow (RCPSG) has recognized our department as a training center for MFDS programme. The trainees are provided an opportunity to work and learn hospital based Dentistry and participate in teaching/learning programme.
 
     
   
 
The department is an internationally accepted centre for training in cleft and craniofacial anomalies, recognized by Cleft Children International, Zurich, Switzerland. The trainees undergo one year training.
 
     
   
 

Post graduate students of the department take up a research study as part of their thesis during their 3 year programme.

The faculty and postgraduate students present scientific papers and posters in national and international conferences each year.

Peripheral out reach clinics/camps: The department provides expert consultation and services at our satellite centre. The department actively participates in the out reach camps conducted by the College on holidays (e.g., Sunday) thereby serving the needy at their door steps.

The department is recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow - MFDS programme.
