Born on March 19, 1954 at Bantwal Taluk, Mangalore, Dr. Rajendra Prasad completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in 1975 at the Government Dental College, Bangalore and went on to obtain his Master’s in Dental Surgery (MDS) from the same institute in the year 1984.

After the completion of his BDS, he served as an Assistant Dental Surgeon at Father Muller’s Hospital, Mangalore (1976 - 1979) during which time he developed a keen interest in the speciality of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. After his postgraduation in the subject, he joined A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences in the year 1985 as a lecturer and later served the department as senior lecturer, Assistant Professor, Reader, Associate Professor and Head of the Department. He also served the institute as the Vice-Principal and Director of Postgraduate Studies from the year 2004. In the year 2006, he was selected as the Principal and Dean of A B Shetty Memorial Instituteof Dental Sciences.

As a keen academician, Dr. Rajendra Prasad believes in continuing dental education and has updated himself with the Western Hospital training programme by visiting the NHS services in the UK and has also completed a certificate of higher training course on Osseo-integration at the Nobel Bio Care, Sweden. He has also been actively involved with the postgraduate training programme from the year 1989 and doctoral training (Ph.D) from the year 2000.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad has been recognised by the Dental Council of India as an inspector and by various universities as an under graduate and postgraduate examiner. He has taken part in and continues to participate in dental health camps, teacher training programmes and school health programmes
